We headed to Oregon’s Pacific Ocean coast. We had reservations at Whaler’s Rest Campground which is in South Beach, just a few miles south of Newport. Check in was nice and easy; the lady was very helpful. She suggested to look at sites 58 or 59 because she knew Starlink (Footnote 1) works there.

Site 58 had a cover over the power pedestal so we went to the next one. It looked great. Easy back in. Behind us are thick woods; can’t see more than a few feet. Same to the sides. Funny to think that we can walk 200 yards and be at the beach/ocean.
It is very damp here, low 50s as a high, and feels like the sun has gone down. Kevin sat outside in a stream of sunlight and took a nap. Soon he was cold and came inside to finish his nap.

We met up with my cousin & his wife at Agate Beach parking. Oh it was so wonderful to see them! The four of us walked to the beach. Fog and mist were thick in the air. We walked to the water and the guys took our pictures. While we were standing there, a sneaker wave hit us gals. It was shocking, cold, and went clear up to my knees. We laughed so hard and teased the guys that they had seen it coming because they didn’t get wet but we knew they didn’t see it either. Pretty funny. Neat to see the lighthouse from the beach, a ways off. Then we followed them to see their property. Their new place, on the top of the mountain, is very beautiful. Of course all sorts of trees around. We are so very thrilled for them and that they have found a wonderful place they like.

The next day Kevin and I walked around Yaquina Bay Harbor.

So fun to see the fishing boats – you can even buy fish right from the fishermen!

We saw Pacific Seafood processing plant and it is quite big. I wanted a tour but never could find one.

Then we came upon a very famous place called “Mo’s Seafood and Chowder”. There are several around the state. We decided to eat there for supper. We both had clam chowder in sourdough bread bowl. Delicious and so warm on a cold -dark day. Walking back to the truck I saw a poster that gave a schedule for Blessing The Fleet the next Sunday. We remember seeing the ceremony on TV’s Deadliest Catch. We learned more online and want to go.

One morning I was sort of drifting in and out of awakeness. Kevin came in, woke me up, and asked if I was okay. Yes, thanks. He said the time was 9:15am!!!! I couldn’t believe it. It is so dark here! I was waiting for the sun to come up but no, supposedly it was up but so dark, he had to turn on a light so we could see each other use sign language!
- Starlink is satellite internet. It works even when you are out of cell coverage area. You can make phone call through it, too.
I’m glad you guys had a wonderful time in Oregon and visiting with our cousins!

You might need to take your trailer and go along the coast. 🙂 There are quite a few lighthouses and I sure enjoy seeing them. You will see more of them in upcoming posts. 🙂
