Kevin and I are very thankful to each of you who take the time to read about our travels. We enjoy sharing our entries from our travel journal. We started the travel journal for ourselves when we bought our travel trailer in September, 2020. We had so many friends and family who wanted to know more and to “come along with us” so we decided to post our journal on this blog. I posted a lot of the stats when we marked our 1 year, in September. Today I want to share a highlight or two from the year 2021.
7 quilts have been made this year while traveling in HOWE. (HOWE is the name of our travel trailer – Home On WhEls, pronounced How-ee). This one pictured is called “Carpenter’s Wheel”. I have since finished the border and am in the process of doing the binding.
This shirt I got Kevin really sums up all about us! HAHA
Thank you, again, for coming along with us through this blog. In 2021, we camped 138 days, so there is still a lot to share with you. Keep checking back. You can even sign up for email alert when a new blog is posted. We try to add a new post on Fridays.
17th Trip- Days 77-83, May 25-31, 2021, Utah Lake State Park, Provo, UT
Utah Lake State Park, Provo, UT May 25-31, 2021
What do you do when you want to camp but Kevin’s work requires him to work at home? You camp close by. We came to Utah Lake State Park, which took less than an hour, and then he would drive home to the “office” every day. HAHA Kind of in reverse order of “going to work” but it worked out for us.
Utah Lake State Park, Provo, UT May 25-31, 2021
This campsite is really nice. We are on the very end and have lovely views all around of the lake and mountains.
Utah Lake State Park, Provo, UT May 25-31, 2021
Looking out towards the lake and mountains. It is a nice evening for our walk.
Utah Lake State Park, Provo, UT May 25-31, 2021
A nice morning with a good book, yummy breakfast of homemade muffins and a Diet Dr Pepper. What more is needed? 🙂
Utah Lake State Park, Provo, UT May 25-31, 2021
What more is needed? Sewing, of course. Here I am piecing together a quilt top. HOWE (our travel trailer we named Home On WhEels) is an easy place to sew and I have plenty of room for this. If you read past posts, you know I am using a sewing table from SewEZi. I recommend it 100%. It is very sturdy and holds my machine perfectly. It also folds up and fits in the storage under our bed.
Utah Lake State Park, Provo, UT May 25-31, 2021
When Kevin got home, I mean, to our campground, HA, we enjoyed a walk around the marina. It is fun to watch the boats go in and out.
Utah Lake State Park, Provo, UT May 25-31, 2021
Across the lake, you see Mt. Timpanogos. It is 11,753 ft above sea level. It is common to still have snow this time of year.

Who is ready for some veggies on the BlackStone Griddle? Me!
Utah Lake State Park, Provo, UT May 25-31, 2021
Kevin brought our hummingbird feeder from home. We were entertained by watching them. In the picture, below the feeder, you see a small airplane. We are close to a small airport. I can’t hear them (I am deaf) but Kevin says he can hear them in a distance. I guess we are easily entertained…we like to watch boats, planes, birds, people, etc. etc. 🙂 Oh yes, and add campers because they are fun to watch, too. Especially when they are backing into a campsite. HAHA

Utah Lake State Park, Provo, UT May 25-31, 2021
Chicken Nachos, anyone? These are suppose to be foil packets cooked in the fire but this area is under fire restrictions. No problem for us! We cooked them on our small gas grill and it worked perfectly. I will add the recipe at the end of this blog.
Utah Lake State Park, Provo, UT May 25-31, 2021
Sewing pieces for a quilt…outside! it was so nice being able to see the lake, enjoy nature and doing a craft I love.
Utah Lake State Park, Provo, UT May 25-31, 2021
Pancakes for breakfast cooked on our Black Stone Griddle. Kevin does a lot of our meal on that device and it works so well.
Another awesome camping trip. Here is the recipe:
1 bag tortilla chips
2 cups shredded cooked chicken (When I cooked it, I added taco seasoning)
1/2 cup red enchilada sauce
15 oz can diced tomatoes with green chilies OR cilantro, drained
1 cup black beans, drained
1 1/2 cup shredded Mexican-flavored cheese
Got four large sheets of tin foil and place the chips in the middle. Then add all the other ingredients. Fold the long sides of the foil, leaving a little space on top. Then roll up the sides of the foil. Place on grill until all is heated through and the cheese is melted, around 10-15 minutes. Enjoy!
15th Trip- Days 71-73, May 7-9, 2021, Rollin’ Home RV Resort, Nephi, UT
Yearns Reservoir in Manti-La Sal National Forest, May 7-9, 2021
Friday 05/07/21 Wind. I don’t like wind. I know it is a necessary part of how the earth works but I don’t like it. There were all sorts of wind warnings in our area. As Kevin drove south to Nephi, we could feel the wind push against HOWE (our travel trailer – Home On Wheels). Kevin drove great and we made it with no problems. Rollin Home RV Park is a brand new campground. You can see it from I-15 freeway and every time we traveled to St George, we would look to see the progress made on the building there. It isn’t finished yet but they are making progress. The check in is at a 5th wheel trailer parked along the parking lot. A sign says to knock and if no one answers, call a number. Kevin called and pretty soon “Kelli” was coming over to us on her golf cart. We got checked in while outside; she used an iPad. Then see gave us directions to our campsite. The campground has 44 sites, pull through, that are 85 feet long and 35 feet wide. They also have 13 back-ins that are 70 feet long and 35 feet wide. Spacious! Each site has asphalt for parking and then 3/4 long of grass and 1/4 long of gravel with a Lifetime picnic table. Each site also has 2 sewer dumps, plus water and electricity. They knew what they were doing when they planned this out! The sites are angled in such a way that you don’t even hardly see the people across the street from you. Seriously, great planning. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to sit outside too much because the wind was gusting to 30 mph. The second and third days were quite cold out. But that didn’t stop us from having fun. 🙂 On the way down to Nephi, I looked up fabric stores in Traveler’s Quilt Book but didn’t find one. So what do I do? Look it up on Google. We saw they closed at 6:00 PM that day so Kevin suggested we drop the trailer off and go back to town to the store. We decided to get everything set at the campground first, and then went.
Paisley Patch Quilts, Nephi, UT May 7-9, 2021
The store is called “Paisley Patch Quilts” and I like it a lot. Oh, Kevin liked it too…in the front, right next to the front door, was a huge, over-sized fluffy chair. See, a husband doesn’t even have to walk very far into the store! 🙂 My eye was drawn to a fabric that goes from light pink through to mid-orange color. It has dots on it. I just had to get “2 yards, please.” We also found fabric with pictures of an old Farm-all tractor. We had to get some. I think my sister-in-law will like some of it. After the store, I had to pay my bribe…shakes at Nebo Queen. 🙂 It is like the old Dairy Freeze. I had butterscotch and Kevin had cookie dough. I truly think it was one of the best tasting shakes I have had. Back to HOWE, Kevin sat outside and I read inside. It was still just a blustery day. For dinner I fixed hot dogs, macaroni salad, and carrots. Evening time was relaxing with books and movies. We did a walk-about and boy was my long hair in a tangled mess from the wind!
Saturday 05/08/21 Another great sleep. The wind finally calmed down enough to stop shaking the trailer later last night. It didn’t bother us, though. Since it was 40s outside and with enough wind to make it uncomfortable, I made breakfast inside. I made breakfast burritos.
Ummm, for some reason I didn’t write anything else about this trip in my travel journal. It sure wasn’t from the lack of a great time, that is for sure!
Where does your road take you? Nephi, UT May 7-9, 2021
We decided for the day to take a drive up Nephi Canyon. For a few miles, it was a fun memory for Kevin. Years and years ago he worked for a place that located underground gas, electricity, phone, etc. He had marked several miles of the canyon road and then was called up back for an emergency – the phone company hit a line. We met up years later with the guy who did the phone line repair and he became a great friend of ours.
Spring with snow in the mountains Nephi, UT May 7-9, 2021
The entire day we drove only on two-lane roads which is fun. We saw a lot of horses, cows, sheep and turkey farms. As we drove through Mt Pleasant, we were interested in coming back to see the history of this place. When we got back to HOWE, we booked a campground in that area to camp in a few weeks. There is farmland all around this area. At one point we headed up a canyon into the Manti-La Sal National Forest. Even though it is May, there is still snow patches around.
Nephi, UT May 7-9, 2021
We found a National Forest campground up there but HOWE is too big to fit. Look at the beautiful water!
Gunnison, UT May 7-9, 2021
If you ever find yourself in Gunnison, UT, you must stop at Coach B’s Pizza. It is right next to the high school. It was as yummy as it looks! We couldn’t eat it all so Kevin put it in the tool box in the back of our truck. The black box kept the pizza warm the rest of the day. Boy, did his tools smell yummy! HAHAHA
Gunnison UT May 7-9, 2021
Of course, we squealed the brakes when I saw this cute little quilt store on the Main Street. Yes, of course, we had to check it out. 🙂
Gunnison, UT May 7-9, 2021
Next to the quilt store was this old theatre. Kevin and I were fascinated by the architecture on this building.
Gunnison, Nephi, UT May 7-9, 2021
Here is the history of that old theater.
Rollin Home RV Park, Nephi, UT May 7-9, 2021
The sites at Rollin Home RV Park are great. The site is so big, it makes our 26 ft HOWE look small. 🙂
14th – Days 67-70, Apr 29-May 2. 2021, Antelope Valley RV Park, Delta, UT Please note, these blog post are from my travel journal and the “funny” towards the end is really how I wrote it. 🙂
Delta, UT April 29-May 2, 2021
My brother, Ben, has a birthday this weekend and he picked Delta, Utah for the place to go camping. The mountains are still too cold and too much snow for camping yet so we went to the desert. When I had this camping trip idea, I shared it with Ben, our friend Beth, and Kevin over dinner a few months ago. Ben said yes, Beth said she would rent a Cruise America motorhome and Kevin helped her get one rented online. We also celebrated Beth’s birthday.
Thursday 04/29/21 Beth found out she couldn’t pick up the rental until 2:00 PM. That morning she got things ready for her part and I got things ready on my side. Since we have HOWE at home now (for the winter we would store it where it is warm and then take it out for camping from there) it was so nice to have HOWE’s refrigerator stocked and cold already. The rental was easy to pick up and they had a brief “where everything is” tour. I rode with Beth in the motorhome and Ben followed. From the motorhome place to Delta took 2 hours.
At one point, I thought, “I don’t remember seeing where the oven is.” I turned around in my seat and then turned around even farther to see….no oven! I couldn’t believe it. And not even no oven, the microwave isn’t a convention oven. I started laughing and told Beth about it. See, she made stuffed peppers for dinner this night but they have to be cooked in the oven. Thankfully, HOWE has an oven. HAHAHA
Antelope Valley RV Park, Delta, UT April 29-May 2, 2021
This campground is one that you email for reservations and the man was always nice. When we pulled up to the office, he greeted us, walked us Into his tiny office and handed us papers to fill out. It is old-fashioned and it work great. He even has a white board where he writes the names and the dates of people staying in each site. (Reminds me of when I volunteered at the hospital and we used a white board like that at the nurses stations.) We got sites together, 11 & 12. There is a nice size of green grass with an equal size of concrete. The RV goes on firmly packed gravel.
My brother and our friend “Googling” how to set up the rental. Delta, UT April 29-May 2, 2021
Ben helped Beth back in and then they got the outside things set up. Well, thankful for Google as they had to watch YouTube to see how to do something. (We have all been there, I am sure.) At 4:00, Kevin got off work, at home, and brought HOWE down. We quickly get it set up and cooked Beth’s peppers in the our oven. We ate outside and it was truly the perfect weather. Shade from trees across the street, sunshine out, temp perfectly comfortable and no wind. Kevin and I did our walk-about and we saw an Alliance travel trailer. Kevin got really excited and talked with the owner who said it is the best trailer and service ever. After dinner, Kevin drove the truck back home to Riverton since he “has to work AT home” for his work. Boooo. Beth, Ben, and I played a few rounds of the game Qwixx in the rental and then I came to HOWE for the night. I watched a movie and then went to bed. Ben and Beth said they heard a train go by and someone running a generator or diesel truck for 30 minutes in the middle of the night. Me, I didn’t hear a thing, I am deaf. HA
Friday 04/30/21 It was a nice slow morning waking up. Went to Beth’s rental for Harmon’s Grocery Store cinnamon rolls for breakfast. Since this is Ben’s birthday trip, we let him decide what to do. We got in his car and drove to a place Beth found called Clear Lake which has a wildlife refuge. Right after Ben said to let him know if we wanted to stop, I saw a long line of a tall mud wall.
Wall of Deseret Fort, Delta, UT April 29-May 2, 2021
Let’s stop there. As we got out, a memory came to mind of a place like this. Where was it, I thought. OHHHH, “I have been here before!” HAHA It is Fort Deseret and Kevin and I stopped when we had Mom & Dad with us. We had stayed in St George for a weekend and then taking the side road home. It was a fort Mormon’s built and used for protection during the time of the Black War.
Former Clear Lake Settlement, Delta, UT April 29-May 2, 2021
Down the road we read about a former place called Clear Lake Settlement. It was a train stop and the town of 3900 people built up. There wasn’t drinking water there so the train had to bring water in for the town and people. From the plaque “ For many years, the State of Utah wanted all the water in the Lake to be part of a wildlife refuge, so they took the water the town of Clear Lake depended on for farming (drinking water was always brought in by the railroad). In the end, the Bonds [name of a family living there] turned over their holdings to the John family in 1937; the Johns won in court but Clear Lake town lost its water—and died.”
Antelope Valley RV Park, Delta, UT April 29-May 2, 2021
We drove on to Clear Lake but there isn’t a lake anymore. There isn’t even a pond. It is more like a few large puddles. We saw ducks and geese in the water and on the ground. We continued on the good dirt road for 1 hr 15 min to Fillmore. We found online a little cafe for us to have lunch. It is called Cluff’s Car Hop Cafe. It is a cute red and white building with a covering over tables in front. The funny thing about this place now is there isn’t car hop service. You have to go inside to order but then they bring you the food. Doesn’t make sense to me. If they can bring your food, they can take your order. Hum. Beth and I weren’t very hungry so we split a blue cheese bacon burger. I didn’t really care for it. The fries looked and tasted liked cooked in old oil. Anyway, it was nice to sit outside under the umbrella and watch the wasps dance with a big pink flowered bush. We left Fillmore the same way we came in. Part way, we turned onto a small and rough dirt road to go see Devil’s Kitchen. Our visitors book said it has petroglyphs. The road was really bad with deep ruts in it. After probably 15 minutes, Ben wisely decided to turn around. But no way to turn around because of the unevenness and ruts in the road. So he backed out a long way until he could turn around. We continued on and went back to the campground. Ben and Beth took naps and I read. Kevin left our house at 4:00 PM and headed back down. I missed him so much. I told him I felt like 1/2 me was missing. He said he felt the same way, too.
Dutch Oven, Delta, UT April 29-May 2, 2021
Beth started the charcoal “volcano” and said this was the first time she had started charcoal because Kevin usually does it. He was still driving to here and was missed! She got the coals started and when they turned grey she then set the dutch oven on it. It worked out fine and she was able to cook her Apple Cider Stew. Kevin got here and I was so happy. We did another walk-about and he ooh’d and aaah’d over the Alliance travel trailer again. 🙂 Dinner was yummy and nice to again have the perfect weather conditions. I like eating outside when it is nice out. Ben bought a fun 3-in1 game that has ladders, bean bag toss and something else. It was a lot of fun to play and Kevin even played. Once it was dark, we headed into HOWE and relaxed the evening.
Beautiful mountain and sage April 29-May 2, 2021
Saturday 05/01/21 Kevin made his delicious Blackstone Griddle breakfast. Again, a perfect weather day and we ate outside. After cleaning up, we all got in Ben’s car and we headed west on Hwy 6. We turned right onto a nicely maintained wide dirt road and followed it a long ways. The road goes to a “You dig” trilobite quarry. We heard it costs $50 a person and we didn’t want to do that. We continued on the road and got to 7000 elevation.
Picnic on top of a mountain side, Delta, UT April 29-May 2, 2021
Up that high there were a lot of trees and it is very pretty. The road got steep and rough and we turned around and pull over. Got out and sat on a blanket for a picnic lunch of salami, cheese ball, crackers and apples. Very fun. On the way down we took a different road. This area is so different from the area around Delta. Delta is a huge valley of completely flat land. Reminds Kevin of Kansas. But 20 minutes drive and we are in mountains where I think it would be fun to camp. Sage brush around and rocks but plenty of walking space. Along the mountains are black rocks and some have sheer drop offs. We drove along Sevier Dry Lake (no water that we can see) and then turned off on another road that took us back in the mountain. We saw some people rock climbing on one of the sheer rock faces. It is interesting to wonder why these roads were built in the first place. Don’t know but they are nice and well maintained. On the backside of the mountain range we were heading towards Delta. 32 miles out and we got a flat tire. 😦 Ben pumped it full of something from a can and we drove a bit farther. But soon he stopped as that wasn’t helping. Of course we had to pull out a lot of stuff from the trunk including our…OH MY GOSH!!! I forgot to write about the best part of the day! I am laughing so hard, I am crying!!! My Quilter’s Travel Companion Book has one store listed in Delta and of course we had to go. So we went this morning at 10:00 when they opened.
Bags & bags of Fabric! Delta, UT April 29-May 2, 2021
This is a great store. It is called “Mom’s Craft & Fabric”. It is a large store, especially for the size of town. They have a huge variety and I was amazed. They have the regular fabric you would see elsewhere but then equally in size or more, unique fabric batiks, southwest, travel, America, on and on. The two ladies working there were very friendly. Kevin followed me around and kept telling me to buy more. He really is the best. I bought a beautiful black and mint green batik, a brown batik with stars and moon, picnic sayings in summer colors, American map with the names of the states where they go, and a water bottle that says “I live an active lifestyle…I quilt everyday.” After I got my normal “2 yards” of each fabric and checked out, I went looking around while Beth got her things cut and check out. Kevin and I found a fabric panel with the old railroad map from St Joseph, MO to the west. He said we should get it for Marsha since her dad worked on the railroad and I thought that was a great idea. As we checked out for the second time, the lady told Kevin that usually people check out two and three times. HAHAHA.
Two patient guys at a fabric store. Delta, UT April 29-May 2, 2021
So, where was I? Oh yes, pulling stuff out of Ben’s trunk to get to the spare tire. Well, I have one large bag and Beth has 2 large bags of fabric that we bought that morning. They rode the rest of the way on my lap and on my feet. I jokingly told Kevin that I was hot since I had 5 quilts on me. HAHA
Stock Car Racing! Park, Delta, UT April 29-May 2, 2021
We went back to the campground. And everyone, but me, took naps. At 6:00 PM we went to Millard County Stock Car Race. I had found this event last week when I was looking at things to do in Delta. It opened up for the first time since Covid yesterday. Ben didn’t want to drive his car with the spare on so he said he and Beth would ride in the back of the truck. We felt like rednecks. 🙂 I had a blast at the stock car races. It is a small place and very few people watching so distancing was great. I could feel the cars when they made noise and it was exciting. I would go again. We all had a good time. Back to campground around 8:00. Kevin made Green Chili Smashburgers. This afternoon the wind had really picked up and so while trying to cook the burgers on the Blackstone, they didn’t get the “smash” well because the wind was blowing the flames around. No worries, it was still delicious. Too windy to eat outside so we ate in Beth’s rental. I also had a pasta salad, fresh carrots, cucumbers, and zucchini with ranch dip made. Ben and Beth were pretty tired so Kevin and I went back to HOWE and relaxed the evening. We went to sleep around 11:30.
Sunday 05/02/21 Kevin and I slept in 9:15! We got dressed and took blueberry muffins over to Ben and Beth. They were drinking coffee and playing cribbage. At 10:00 they left. Beth has a lot of cleaning to do on the rental before we take it back tomorrow. Ben followed her. Checkout isn’t until 1:00 and Kevin and I plan to stay here until then. No other place we need to be. 🙂 On the drive home, we took Highway 6. At some place between Delta and Eureka, Kevin said, “I think people should hang a flag on every 5 or so posts.” “Wow”, I thought, “He is very patriotic!” “That way,” he continued, “I will know which way the wind is blowing.” I laughed so hard I was crying! Completely not what I thought he was thinking.:)
Friday, 04/02/21 The forecast for the West is to break records this coming weekend. At home it is suppose to hit the 80s. Kevin and I headed south for the weekend. For the first 3 hours, the drive was great. A lot less traffic than we have had before. I was surprised because this is Easter weekend/Spring break. When we got to Cedar City, we saw a highway patrol car with lights flashing and the officer was slowing traffic down. We looked it up online and the left lane was closed 5 miles in front of us! We were stopped more than we moved. It took us 35 minutes to go one mile. One poor guy I saw was really upset. He was in the car next to us. He was all dressed up and definitely had a place he needed to be. He was texting and I was afraid the guy would rear-end someone. Thankfully, he didn’t. The delays set us back almost an hour but we didn’t worry at all. We are open and don’t have anywhere we need to be. We went to the storage spot and picked up HOWE (Home On Wheels, our travel trailer) and boy, it was hot outside. Temperature said 90. Then we headed south. We marvel each time at how the sun, at different times of the day and different times in the year, make the landscape look different.
Looking across the valley of Mesquite, NV April 3-5, 2021
Always intriguing. As we pulled up to the registration at Solstice RV Resort in Mesquite, NV, the lady came out and said, “Hi Dolans!” Kevin asked her how she knew it was us and she said we were the last ones to arrive for the day. HAHA I guess no “incoming!!!” (we say this when an RV pulls into the campground) for us because we WERE the incoming. 🙂
Kevin made the wood sign, Charla made the quilt piece and friends gave us the sign.
Got set up in the 94 degree heat. The shade was completely comfortable. Off we went to town to our favorite restaurant in Mesquite (the only one we know off), Los Lupes, 312 W Mesquite. We ate outside. We were entertained by several birds and doves. Kevin said they were talking a lot and with a different tone of voice than what he is used to hearing. (I am deaf and can’t hear the sounds but Kevin is nice to tell me about them.)We decided to share our meals: chicken chimichanga and carne Asda nachos. Delicious! Even though the temp was 90, it wasn’t too hot at all. We had a nice shaded table. The humidity is 7% so maybe that makes it feel cooler. After dinner, we headed to HOWE and sat outside until 11:00 pm. The weather was so comfortable, the stars bright, and the city lights beautiful. I read some more of the book I am reading (1999 pages!) Called Truth, Lies and O-rings. So good!
Saturday 04/3/21 Why in the world is it that both of us sleep amazing in HOWE?! Such a peaceful and restful sleep. Breakfast at McDonald’s drive through and then we headed to Hurricane (yes, a real town name in Utah). On the way down yesterday, I was really interested in the story of Virgin River and the highway from St George, UT to Littlefield, AZ. This morning I looked it up and wow, oh wow! The highway, called Virgin River Gorge was started in 1962 and wasn’t completed until 1973. It ended up costing $49 million dollars a mile (according to rates in 2007)!!! We figured out the 17 miles cost a billion dollars. It was the most costly highway in the entire country. Look it up! The history is mind blowing. All to cut 12 miles off of going around the old way on Old Hwy 91. We headed to the annual Hurricane Rotary Easter Car Show. Kevin will tell you about it in the next post.
We decided to drive back to Mesquite on the Old Hwy 91. We remembered part of it as it is on the Indian Reservation when we went to Gunlock. We saw a few old buildings and foundations pretty close together. I wonder if they were a gas station and a restaurant catering to the travelers before I-15 came along. We pulled off so I could take a picture. My photography class said to always turn around and as I did, oh, the scene was splendid. Red rocks and cliffs in front of the mountain with trees (Kevin calls it “Charla’s Mountain”).
Old Hwy 91 Utah/ Nevada April 3-5, 2021
Down the road a bit we saw a sign and stopped to read it. We learned this path was the Old Spanish Trail. It followed the Native American’s route for trading and hunting. Curious, we see the map shows people from New Mexico going up north, then west, then back to LA. I want to know why they didn’t just cut across New Mexico and Phoenix. Hum…..
She loves me…She loves me not…She loves ME!
We stopped along the road for me to take some pictures of the wildflowers. Kevin picked a lovely yellow one and started “she loves me, she loves me not.” Turns out, she loves him. Whew!
Then he put a flower on the windshield, under the wiper blade. It looked so pretty and had itself open to the sun. As we started driving, the poor thing was all closed up with the wind. Kevin said he was going to turn on the windshield wiper and I told him he better not! That flower hung on through Beaver Dam, AZ, Scenic, AZ and Mesquite, NV, all the way to Snip and Scrap fabric store. It tried to open up but looked like a bad, windy hair day. HAHA I told Kevin the flower needs a drink and he said he wondered if diet coke would help it.
Hanging in there!
Inside the fabric store, the very nice owner recognized us (we were here in Nov). She is extremely helpful and so kind. She said she wants to learn American Sign Language and I find that so kind. I found some dark blue material to go on the backing of a quilt I am making for Ronald McDonald house. Oh boy, there were so many cute fabrics!
Back to HOWE and nap time for Kevin. At the fabric store Kevin asked for recommendations for dinner. She offered a greek place and a sushi place. When it was time for dinner, we wanted Mexican food again and went back to the same last as yesterday! HAHA Even at 4:30, there was a long wait but since we wanted to eat outside, we got right in. Another beautiful evening, delicious food, and great visiting. After dinner it was back to the campground and we sat outside and relaxed. The sun setting on the mountains and mesa is just stunning.
Sunday 04/04/21 We took HOWE back to the storage site in St George and then headed home.
8th trip – Days 34-50, Dec 18-2020-Jan 3, 2021. St George, Utah, Arizona, and Nevada (continued)
Reflection off trailer. Camping Southern Utah RV Resort, St George, UT Dec 18, 2020-Jan 3, 2021
During the day it was raining. It was a very light rain and not too cold. When it was done, the air felt and smelled like spring.
Quilting while camping. Dec 18, 2020-Jan 3, 2021
Tuesday, I sewed all day. Making cute snowmen table runner and placemats. Kevin worked during the day. When we were done, we went to Main Street Quilt Cottage in Hurricane. Of course, found it from Traveler’s Quilt Guide book. It is a tiny store with not really a large selection of fabric to amount to anything. They had patterns, kits, and wool. I bought a beautiful blue fabric that is darker on top and goes to light at the bottom and has gold circles. On the way back we stopped at Walmart for command strips to hang the National Park map that my parents gave us for Christmas.
National Park Map. Gift from my parents.
I was texting with my sewing friend, Sandra, this week. Her and her husband wanted to camp and asked where we are. I told her. The next thing I know, she says they are coming down to camp and are staying in the same campground! So fun. That evening, they knocked on our door. It was nice to meet her husband and introduce them to Kevin.
Wednesday, repeat from yesterday during the day. I sewed and Kevin worked. We are love, love, loving living out of HOWE (our Home on Wheels). After Kevin’s work, we drove to Santa Clara to a quilt shop. It is called Clover Patch Quilt and is in Traveler’s Quilt Guide book. So, of course, I just “had” to buy something. HAHA Ended up buying some pretty pink batiks and Kevin wanted some cute camping fabric that has an old Ford pickup on it.
Got KFC and took it home. Then we went over to see Sandra. Their trailer is 6 months old and is a great floor plan. Kevin and I really like the layout. Sandra and I sewed while the guys visited.
Thursday, New Year’s Eve. Sandra and her husband left this morning to go home. Now, when Kevin and I first booked with this campground, we were replacing our cruise, Dec 18-28, which was canceled due to Covid. Then we thought, why go home then? So we had looked to extend our time. Over several weeks, we kept checking but the entire campground was booked. Then one day, we found that 1 slot had opened. We took it. That would extend until Dec 31. We kept watching and soon another slot opened up for Dec 31-Jan 3, exactly what we wanted. So, we had 3 bookings. HAHA When we checked in, they told Kevin that we had missed one day (the check out day we didn’t check in that day and it happens all the time). She made some changes and they had 1 opening. It turns out, we would only have to move sites one time. Pretty cool!
OH, the site we moved to? Was the spot Sandra and her husband were in. That made me laugh. We teased them last night about “get out of our spot!” As soon as they left, we moved over. It was between two long term looking places, one being the AT&T truck. It didn’t have the same feeling as Row E8 and E9 where we have stayed before. But it was fine.
Kevin worked until noon and then everyone was off. After that we went to Sally’s Beauty Supply. You see, I realized something very important. We are camping so much and my Gelish nails (a nail polish that stays on great!) aren’t lasting quite as long since I am hand washing dishes every day. So of course, I need a Gelish kit to keep in the trailer. HA Of course, Sally’s was out of most everything, including the kit. Thankfully I was able to piece together all the parts needed. Back to HOWE and I did my nails. Ah, what a nice feeling. 🙂
In researching things happening in the area, I found that Washington City was having fireworks at 10:00 pm on New Year’s Eve. I think that was a great idea. Kevin and I stood outside and watched them. Our new site looks south and over the whole valley. There were a lot of fireworks and they were fun to see. It was a little bit cold but nothing a jacket didn’t fix. Off to bed we went. One benefit of being deaf? I didn’t hear anything all night. Kevin heard fireworks throughout the night.
Friday, New Year’s Day. This morning we drove through Santa Clara and then north on Hwy 18. We could see Snow Canyon, Dammeron Valley offered gorgeous photos of snow on the cedar trees and ground.
Stunning Dammeron Valley, UT Dec 18, 2020-Jan 3, 2021
We continued to Beryl Junction and turned left onto Hwy 56. The valley there is very flat and reminds us that it is a dry lakebed. We crossed the state line into Nevada and the road name changed to 319. Up and over the mountains and into snow clouds. The roads were dry and the clouds on the mountains gave the feeling of being the only ones on the earth. A quick stop at Panaca and then we turned north. A few miles and we were at Cathedral Gorge State Park.
Cathedral Gorge State Park a place unlike anything we have seen before.
We thought the Cathedrals would be as tall as Zion but they weren’t. However, they were like something we hadn’t seen before. Unlike Utah, where formations are made from soft sandstone and erosion, this was hard as cement. In fact, I kept saying how I thought someone had just made it with a concrete truck. HAHA Of course, that isn’t true. When you touch the structures, they were hard as cement but you can see all the erosion over time. It fact, some is eroded so much that it made slot canyons. We walked up several.
Charla standing in a Slot Canyon.
There was a little skiff of snow on the ground, but the temp was 52. Kevin made the profound statement: “Who knew Erosion was such as Artist.” Right on.
Kevin looking in awe at the beauty of this place.
We are so very glad we went but it is probably a one time visit. We continued home a different way, taking Hwy 93 to just east of Mesquite. This round about way showed us all sorts of landscapes: from the mountains and cedar trees, to flat desserts and Joshua Trees. Back at HOWE, we planned out our next couple of trips: Arizona. We want to look around and see if we like it. We thought we would fly there for a long weekend (MLK Day) but then, why not work the week there and stay ten days, and then, “why don’t I” (Kevin)” just take vacation days”. Sounds good to me! We booked flights, hotel and car.
Valley of Fire State Park is a must-see!
Saturday, Valley of Fire State Park in Arizona. We had seen signs for this place and when we researched for Gold Butte. Today we drove there. It was another perfect day with sun and high 50s. We are close to the headway of Lake Mead and saw quite a few campers boondocking. Valley of Fire is a lot of red rocks, similar to Zion in color and texture. We stopped at the three cabins, which were used for travelers years ago. They are smaller than our trailer! 🙂 Behind the cabins we saw more petroglyphs. Down the road we stopped at Rainbow and took a hike. It was a mile out and back. I was surprised that the ground was all red sand. Makes sense, that it is from the red sandstone but I hadn’t thought about it before. It was like walking on a beach. Beautiful and the rocks were so close we could touch them. The parking lots were full and we were lucky to find a place to park the truck. Kevin said this was one of his favorite places.
“End of trail” indeed! The drop off behind Kevin is crazy far.
As we drove out of the park, we were again stunned at how different the landscape is: it just rolls along as a desert and a few hills and then all of sudden, these red rocks jet up. Really neat.
Sunday, disembarkment day. Also so sad. Kevin winterized the trailer as I put things away.
It helps my heart that we have plans for upcoming trips.
7th – Day 28-33, Nov 20-25, Solstice Motorcoach Resort, Mesquite, NV
Friday, we left our house in Riverton at 7:30 AM. I drove the truck while Kevin worked from his laptop and our hotspot. The drive was easy with very little traffic. We got to the RV storage unit in Washington, UT, next to St George, at 11:30. It took about an hour to get everything hooked up; including airing up the tires. Then we drove to Mesquite, NV to Solstice Motorcoach Resort. Now, this isn’t a resort as I think of a resort but it is one of our favorite campgrounds. The campsites are very wide, in fact, you park your vehicle what equates to two parking spots over. It is gravel, with paved road. There are palm trees around what could be a water fountain and pond. No water there now. The view is stunning: we have what looks like the Wasatch front mtns to the east and then behind us to the west is a mesa. Beautiful. We quickly got set up and then Kevin sat outside and did more work. (No picnic table).
Camping Solstice Motorcoach Resort, Mesquite, NV Nov 20-25, 2020
Oh hey, it is completely dark here at 4:45 PM! It is because we are on the border of the time zone. I think on Dec 21 it must be dark at 3:00! After work, we drove around part of Mesquite.
Camping Solstice Motorcoach Resort, Mesquite, NV Nov 20-25, 2020
We found it interesting that there isn’t a lot of fast food places. 2 McDonalds, a Taco Bell, and a KFC. That is all. We got supper at McDonalds and ate in the truck. Then we went to Smiths grocery store. I didn’t bring food because we don’t have the fridge plugged in so it will take a little while for it to get cold. Smiths was a shock! Crowded rows and out of a lot of food….including diet coke! We got a few things but it wasn’t a store I liked. We went to ACE Hardware for a few things. It is a darling store. Then we went to Walmart and it is a pretty nice store. They had diet coke. HAHA Then back to campsite.
Camping Solstice Motorcoach Resort, Mesquite, NV Nov 20-25, 2020S
Saturday I made eggs with pre-cooked turkey sausages. They were pretty good. We spent the day driving around Mesquite, NV, Scenic, AZ, and Beaver Dam, AZ. We really like Scenic; was surprised at all the gravel roads. We saw quite a few “pads” with electricity, water, and sewer for RVs. Interesting to us, for sure. We drove to the sign of Gold Butte National Monument on very rough roads. Will be back tomorrow. Back to campsite around 3:00, hung out and then had pulled pork sandwiches and potato salad for supper.
Camping Solstice Motorcoach Resort, Mesquite, NV Nov 20-25, 2020
Sunday, same breakfast. Then we drove to Gold Butte National Monument. There was a ghost town called Gold Butte. It was an active gold mine in late 1800’s, early 1900’s. It was a great day. What we thought was rough roads yesterday, well, nothing compared to this day. Most of it was paved at one time, but now it is a truly washboard road. If we were true off-roaders, we would have “aired down” our tires – lowering the pressure in the tires to make for a smoother ride. There were no potholes, just that washboard surface. The area is unique and beautiful with different kinds of rock, sand and dirt. The Virgin River is so pretty; it meanders along the beautiful desert. We saw the beginning of Lake Mead.
Camping Solstice Motorcoach Resort, Mesquite, NV Nov 20-25, 2020
We got out and climbed around Whitney Pockets – so unique! The rock at Whitney Pockets is rock-hard, unlike the sandstone that blows away.
Camping Solstice Motorcoach Resort, Mesquite, NV Nov 20-25, 2020
We continued on heading for Gold Butte ghost town. At the end, we got to the ghost town.
We were a tiny bit disappointed in that there wasn’t foundations or anything like that to see. We read on the National Park sign that 2000 people lived there in the gold rush of 1906 but they lived in tents, so that is why there aren’t foundations to see. Two guys are buried there; they did live in a house and would feed people passing by. They died in 1958/1961. We ate a picnic lunch on the tailgate of our truck. That was fun. Then we walked a little ways and saw the opening of several gold mines.
We were there about an hour. On the way back, the road seemed even rougher, if that is possible. HAHA It took 1 hour and 10 minutes to drive 14 miles. What a great memory. Oh, the only animals we saw the entire time was 2 wild donkeys. They just starred at us. 🙂
Camping Solstice Motorcoach Resort, Mesquite, NV Nov 20-25, 2020
The road is an in/out road. We went 91 miles in 5 hours! So much fun. We thought about going to Valley of Fire but we will do that at another time. Back to the trailer in time to watch KC Chiefs beat LV Chargers.
Monday, Kevin worked and I did some sewing. He got me, for an early Christmas present, a SewEZi table (https://www.seweziusa.com/) and it is incredible!
Fits perfectly in our trailer. I had a lot of fun sewing.
When Kevin was done with work, we both took naps and then drove around Mesquite. A few months ago we found online a different campground that had opening for Christmas. It is cute with palm trees between each site. However, it is in the middle of the city right next to Smiths. It does’t have a view and so we decided to cancel that one and keep our reservation for Southern Utah RV Resort for dates in December. We had the reservations for Dec 18-28, the dates we were suppose to be gone on a cruise. Kevin checked and the exact same campsite was available Dec 28-31 so we took it.
Tuesday, Kevin worked and I did some sewing. Same as yesterday. Later Kevin went with me to two fabric stores. One was Simply Quilt and found from Traveler’s Quilt Book. It was tiny with no more than 20 bolts of fabric. Very nice lady and I bought some white fabric. Then we drove to Stitch N Scrap. The lady there was extra nice and kept asking Kevin how to sign different words in ASL to help me. So kind! I got some fabric just because it is pretty, a rotor cutter container, Isulate-Bright, and a book about a quilter, novel. If you are in the area, check out this store: http://www.stitchnscrap.com
Later in the day, I checked the Southern Utah RV Resort’s website and low and behold, our same campsite was now available for Dec 31-Jan 3. We took it! HAHA So we have 3 reservations, in a row, all for the same site. Kevin called them and we reserved the activity room for Christmas Day, 11:00-3:00. Then we invited Mom & Dad to come for Christmas.
I suggested to Kevin that he try doing a puzzle. I think he would like it and it would be good exercise for his brain. We bought a cute one the other day at Ace Hardware. He started putting it together tonight. He worked on it for 2 hours and I was very impressed. Oh, this was after one game of Cribbage, which I finally won. 😉
Monday Kevin woke up at 6:45 am, you know, he has a long commute! HAHA But as he was ready to log on to work and discovered he had left the charging cable at home. Off to Walmart he goes. Back quickly with a new one. He was kind and set up my sewing machine for me. I on one end of the table and he on the other. I love it!
Kevin working on one end and me sewing on the other.
Soon he was outside for the day working in his comfy camping chair. I had a lot of fun sewing in the trailer. I set up the cutting board on the end of the counter; plenty of room. It even has a plug right above for the iron.
My big kitchen allows for great space for quilting.
For lunch I made Steak Bites with Garlic Butter (recipe below). I came to realize that on Kevin’s work days, we should have our big meal at lunch because as soon as he is done with work, we want to be off exploring and not taking the time to cook and not come back starving. In the afternoon I sewed some more and read.
Working while at Southern Utah RV Resort, Camping St George, UT Oct 16-25, 2020
As soon as Kevin was done with work at 4:00 pm, we were in the truck. We went to Traveler’s Quilt Book stop Quilted Works. It was a small shop and I was surprised not a lot of xmas fabric. But I did find a darling one with snowmen and bought it.
Shopping for fabric. Can never have enough, right?
Then we went to what showed online as a used bookstore. It is called Book Bungalow. As the name says, it is in an old house, cute, but all new books. Kevin is interested in old books. Interesting, online we don’t find any used bookstores in this area.
We drove to Red Hills Desert Garden. This is a neat place where you can walk on and around red rocks that have been shaped from wind and water. Really fun place. We took out our walking sticks and did a bit of walking around. Kevin offered Costa Vida for supper and of course I couldn’t resist! (Otherwise, it was sandwiches.) We ate on our picnic table and enjoyed watching the sun go down and the moon come out.
Beauty from wind and water,Camping St George, UT Oct 16-25, 2020
Tuesday was incredibly relaxing. I did some quilting, reading and catching up on this diary. Kevin worked from outside. Lunch was French Dip. After work, we drove to a place in Hurricane called “Winder Towing.” They have a YouTube channel called Matt’s off -road Recovery. It is something that Kevin and his brother, Gary, have seen on YouTube and they laugh their heads off! As I understand it, if you need a tow, you get a free T-shirt with their logo. We went there because they have a little shop online and we thought he could buy some things from there. Every though we were there during the open hours and cars were in front, the door was locked.
Kevin and Gary watch YouTube videos of this place. He wanted to see it. Camping St George, UT Oct 16-25, 2020
Then we drove to Sand Hollow. I hear people talk about that place. It didn’t seem like much to us. Continued to drive along the east side of St George and around the south near the hotel we usually stay at. It is fun to drive around and just see life and houses. We went to Harmons Grocery for treats and bread and then back to camp. We were full from crackers and cheese I had taken with us. I read and Kevin watched some videos. We did a late night (9:30 PM!) walk-about and then went to bed.
Wednesday continued to be a relaxing and perfect weather day. For lunch I heated up the Chili Verde I made at home and we had it over tortilla chips. Yummy. That evening, I had to do a Zoom video conference meeting over the internet with the Department of Services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Advisory Council. Kevin got me all set up on his computer and I had my iPad for CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation). It worked well since I am deaf. Kevin went off to check out the storage place for our trailer that we rented. Afterwards, Kevin and I went on a walk-about and then came back and had sandwiches for supper at 7:00 PM. Enjoyed a lovely evening reading outside.
Thursday I was busy with emails with the Advisory Council and other things. I didn’t sew today but organized and edited a lot of pictures. I also read. Kevin is enjoying his work from his chair outside. 🙂 At 5:00 PM, we met our friend who goes to college here. We went to Angelica’s Mexican Restaurant. It was good food and fun to catch up with her. After dinner, Kevin and I drove around and looked at some campgrounds around here for ideas for next time. We found we really like Southern Utah RV Resort! Hey, look at the cool way the guy cleans the campground road:
This made us laugh. Riding that thingy and using the leave blower to clean the road.
We picked a name for our travel trailer. Since it is our Home On Wheels, we named it HOWE (pronounced How-ee). We even have the camping dates in our calendar listed under HOWE. HAHAHA
If you remember a few posts ago, we had decided to get a storage spot for HOWE in Southern Utah. This area is warmer and a place that Snowbirds (people who go south for the winter) like to be. Where we live, it is way too cold, too snowy, and most places in the mountains are closed because you can’t get there in the winter. So by having HOWE in the warmer area, we can drive there in a few hours and take it out and camp on long weekends, holidays, etc. Don’t worry, we will be camping in just a short time.
HOWE parked at storage. We can easily pull it out for camping soon.
*Steak Pieces in Garlic Butter Yumminess
(We made this on the Blackstone Griddle but this recipe shows cooking on a stove)
1 1/4 lbs. steak, cut up into small pieces
1 Tbsp olive oil
2 Tbsp butter
2 tsp garlic, minced
1 Tbsp parsley, minced
Salt and Pepper
Over high heat, using a large pan, heat the olive oil. Season the steak with salt and pepper.
Place the meat in the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes. Stir often so that each piece gets brown.
To the pan, add butter and garlic, cook for 1-2 minutes. Stir so the sauce coats the meat.
5th trip – Day 14-17, Oct 2020, Brigham City/Perry KOA, Utah
My parents have been wanting to camp with us so I decided to set up this camping trip to include them.
Autumn leaf on campsite table.
Kevin and I stayed in our travel trailer and Mom & Dad rented a deluxe cabin there at KOA. There are smaller Kamping Kabins, but this one had a bathroom inside. We went up Thursday evening. Kevin and I have been to this campground at least three other times over the past years. We like it and remember wagon rides and ice cream socials. Well, those aren’t happening right now due to Covid. Mom & Dad’s cabin has a small stove and a fridge. She made her Baked Beans and brought them for Thursday night supper. I made corn muffins at home and brought them for this meal. We ate outside their cabin.
Charla’s parents & Kevin enjoying a fire.
Friday I played games with Mom & Dad. Friday evening Ben came up and stayed in the cabin. Meals were at our campsite table. We sat around our fire pit that evening.
Camping Brigham City/Perry KOA, UT Oct 8-11, 2020
Saturday we got in Mom & Dad’s van and Kevin drove us to Bear Lake. The idea was to see the Autumn leaves in Logan Canyon. They didn’t disappoint! So beautiful and all colors. While driving up there, I got a text from a friend. She and her husband were camping at Bear Lake but heading down the canyon while we were going up to have lunch with granddaughter at USU. For fun, we found their trailer, took a pic and sent it to them saying “No one is home.” They got a great kick out of it. We didn’t drive too far around the lake. Drove back to Logan and had a picnic lunch of sandwiches that Mom and Kevin made that morning. We ate at a park just below USU main building. It was a lovely day.
Beautiful Logan Canyon
Traveler’s Quilt Book stop was at “Village Dry Goods” in Brigham City. I bought some fabric that is gray and white that says things like “sewing is my happy place.” The ladies tried to sign “thank you” but ended up signing “never” and I so appreciated their attempt.
Fabric store!
Dad wanted to stop at Smith’s & Edwards. It is the huge store mentioned in a previous post. Back to camp for naps. That evening Kevin made his now famous Smashburgers.
Who is ready for smashburgers? Me!
Mom got excited and told me she wants to buy a camper van.
“Kids” Terry & Barbara Kester, on their phones.
One day I went to use our bathroom in our trailer. “Someone” put the toilet paper on the top of the highest shelf in the bathroom. I can’t reach it! 🙂 THAT is a short person problem. Actually, it was a tall, husband problem because he got in trouble. HAHA What did I do? As soon as I was home, I bought a toilet paper stand for the bathroom. Problem solved 🙂
Someone is in trouble for placing the toilet paper on the highest shelf in the bathroom!
Sunday we had a nice relaxing and lazy morning. Then we all headed home.
3rd trip – Day 8-10, Sept 25-27 Willard Bay State Park, South Marina, Utah
Willard Bay State Park, South Marina Campground, Sept 25-27, 2020
We found this place from a camping app. A few days prior to going, I looked at reviews and they were awful! People, sometimes full-timers, said it was the worst campground they had ever been to. Some of the reviews were this month. I was a bit wondering. I even checked on availability at a KOA campground in Brigham City in case we needed to leave. 🙂 It wasn’t bad at all. The South Marina is a “parking lot” with grass (dead grass this time of year) behind the trailers with nice picnic tables and fire pits. We picked a site on the end and had lots of lovely trees around. Other tables that didn’t have shade had nice covers. Yes, there were a few mosquitoes but what do you except, you are by a lake. They weren’t bad at all. A few gnats but more in Helper than here (see other post). I know in the summer the bugs can get really bad around the lake.
Willard Bay State Park, South Marina Campground, Sept 25-27, 2020
We got settled into our camp spot and I took a walk-about. I like to see how other people set up their campsites. Next to us was a large motor home with 2 TV’s on the outside. Wow!
We couldn’t see the lake because we are next to a long berm, or dam. But across the bridge and up some stairs and wow, this fresh water lake is huge! There isn’t a beach here on the south side but there is a boat ramp. Several people were fishing. Of course I got my iPhone out and started snapping pictures.
Willard Bay State Park, South Marina Campground, Sept 25-27, 2020
For our evening walk-about we walked along the water on the berm/road. After about 15 minutes we started feeling the mosquitos and goodness, we should have sprayed ourselves. Kevin is sweeter than me and got several bites. I didn’t get bit at all. It was getting dark and we went inside, relaxed, and read. OH boy, we sure sleep great in our trailer! Every night is just like being in our comfy bed at home. The mattress is the same size, a queen, and very comfortable.
Willard Bay State Park, South Marina Campground, Sept 25-27, 2020
The next morning Kevin cooked on the Blackstone Griddle that his brother gave to us. He cooked hash browns, bacon and eggs. Delicious!
Come and get it! Breakfast is ready.
After cleaning up, we drove the truck north to the main marina. Kevin wants to try a kayak and we checked into them. They are cheap to rent. But the wind had picked up and it was a bit cold to be on the water. He will try it another time. We drove through the two campgrounds. Back to those reviews, some said the freeway noise was horrible. Kevin agreed. Something with the noise bouncing off the close mountain made it exceptionally noisy. (I wouldn’t know became I am deaf. 🙂 )We found a spot we would like to stay at on the water’s edge. Next time.
Willard Bay State Park, South Marina, Sept 25-27, 2020
Next we headed south to Lifetime Products Factory Outlet. They make hard plastic chairs, tables, play grounds and sheds. We were interested in a shed so we can move yard tools and things out of the garage. That way we have more room to get around our vehicles, and Kevin has more room in his wood shop. We found one we like and asked about “scratch and dent.” We bought one; the only thing that was damaged is the box. We will need to pick up this week. It is a cute one.
This is the finished shed after we put it together. 🙂
I looked up in my Traveler’s Quilt Book and found a few fabric stores in Ogden, where we were. We went to “My Heritage Fabric” and bought some fabric that had cute quilt saying on it. I will make them for my sewing friends for Christmas. As we were checking out, I saw a lady with an amazing panel: a map of the US and then National Parks around the edges. I have been looking for a good National Park fabric, even online, and everywhere was sold out. And I liked this one better than any others I had seen. After she left, I asked the saleslady for it. She said that lady had bought the last 3 panels. Oh, I was so disappointed. She offered to call her “sister store” and see if they have it. They do! We drove to the other side of town and got it. A darling store, in an old house, called, “Bertha & Beulah’s”. I got great fabric to go with the panel. Kevin suggested a quilt for the trailer. Oh yeah!
My Heritage Fabrics quilt store.Bertha & Beulah’s quilt store
On the way to our campsite, we stopped in at Smith & Edwards. It started out as a military surplus store. It still has a lot of military surplus, but has expanded to sporting goods, farm supplies – just about everything. It is a huge store. I mean, ridiculously huge. Kevin bought me a hiking pole.
Back to our campsite. After relaxing, armed with my new hiking pole, we walked along the lake for about a mile. The wind had picked up but it wasn’t really cold. We liked to watch the seagulls and the boats. We tried for find a geocache but it looked like it was in the canal. Nope, not going to do that. Back to the trailer and Kevin made smash burgers on the Blackstone. I had them all mixed and prepped in balls at home so it wasn’t so messy. Oh man, they are delicious! After dinner, Kevin made a fire in the fire pit. No bugs, light wind, perfect relaxation. Let me tell you, the sky gave the most amazing sunset. I kept running up to the lake and over to the trees to take pictures. The sky was breathtaking.
Willard Bay State Park, South Marina Campground, Sept 25-27, 2020Willard Bay State Park, South Marina Campground, Sept 25-27, 2020
Sunday morning I heated up the breakfast from yesterday. The temp outside was 47 but we were nice and warm inside. We didn’t even have to turn on our heater at all this trip. It as a great weekend and we want to come back. We will try the north campground by the lake but not in the summer.
As I look back at photos I have taken, I realize I like old posts. 🙂
