What Is Moochdocking? :)

At Southern Oregon RV Park, Kevin and I walked to the campground office and bought our 3rd bundle of firewood. It is nice to have a few days of good weather for a campfire. Later that afternoon Kevin started the fire so we would have coals for packets. This time we tried a new recipe – burger and fries. It was good but the fries, while they were cooked, weren’t crunchy. I will probably delete this recipe from my recipe app. We burned up the rest of the wood until around 11:00pm. I find it mesmerizing to just sit and watch the flames.

Spiffy New Tires! Central Point, OR 04/23

Buying new tires is never fun, at least for us. But our truck was getting close to needing new ones. With pulling a 36 ft 5th wheel all over the country, well, we want to make sure tires (and everything else) are in good shape. Kevin had been researching tires for our Ram for a few weeks. He ordered them online through Discount Tire and then got an appointment nearby in Medford, OR. Very happy with the service and the tires and now we are ready for more miles down the road. 🙂

Slept with all our bedroom windows open that night. It was so comfortable. However, in the beautiful sunny morning…we smelled something. Something in the campground. It was our neighbors cooking bacon outside. HAHA It woke us up and made us soooo hungry. Later as they walked by and talked to Kevin, he said how their breakfast smelled so good. They said, “Oh no, we don’t want to be THOSE people at a campground.” HAHA, Nope, food smells are fine, other smells, not so much. LOL

We got packed up and had a Travel Day 3.5 hours north to our nephew’s house. The roads were so smooth, even with our new truck tires. The scenery looked the same as where we have been in parts of California – tall trees, very green, some places narrow to see through, other places with small meadows. Remember my pet peeve about not knowing what is growing in the fields? Well, as we drove along the country roads we did see a few signs that said what they were growing. I was so happy with them! Fescue and Hazelnuts. 🙂 Later, our nephew’s wife told me it is a group of lady farmers who have those signs. No kidding, leave it to the ladies! Love it. Men farmers need to learn from the ladies!

Can You Smell It???? Corvallis, OR 04/23

At our nephew’s house, the area has had so much rain that we were unable to park HOWE (1) next to the barn. His lawn mower got stuck in the mud right there that morning. Nope, not for HOWE! The only place is in front of the house garage. Can’t turn around because everything is so wet. So? Back up HOWE all 300 yards, he said. Starting the back up took a few tries, as there was a ditch on one side and mailboxes on the other. We stopped traffic, but only about 2 cars. They were nice about it. Right as we started, the walkie-talkie died so I had to use great big gestures. HAHA We got it backed up. This is called “Moochdocking” – where you “mooch” off your friends and family for a place to part your RV. HAHA Got set up quickly and then sat and visited outside with this wonderful family. Our nephew got a smoker for his birthday and made us tri-tips. It took some hours and was oh so delicious. Almost melt in your mouth. Our nephew’s wife made potato casserole and a tomato, cucumber, feta salad. Yum!

They were interested in Starlink so we set it up and showed them. Even before it fully connected, Starlink was truly 10 times faster than her home internet. Yep, she is sold. After dinner we sat outside in the front of the house, watching the sun set (see the first picture). It was a great and quick visit. We plan to be back here for longer in a few weeks.

  1. “HOWE” is what we named our Alliance Avenue 36-ft 5th wheel. See: Home On WhEels and we pronounce it Howie. We live and travel in it full-time around the country.

    1. Now you need to have some tri-tip. 🙂
Thank you. It was so nice to sit out and enjoy visiting and the beautiful sunset. Sunsets are my favorite, why? I am usually not up for sunrises. Haha Unless we are in AZ where the sun rises early and bright and wakes me up. LOL

  1. That was great to read of your times with your family on Oregon!
Looks like you got the New Tires at the right time.
I really don’t see the Dolan’s being much of a “mooch”!
Happy travels and thanks for letting me travel with you guys!

    1. Ha, glad we don’t “mooch” too much. If someone has a driveway or property big enough…. 🙂
Kevin was happy with the shiny new tires. 🙂 Thanks for coming along and reading.
