How Did We Get Started On This Journey?

2 years of full-time traveling…and no plans to stop.

How did we get started on this journey? Well, Kevin and I both love to travel. Kevin traveled to some places while growing up in the midwest. In college he traveled with a college music group and saw even more places around the country. My family did a lot of traveling when I was growing up. Even being from the west, we visited a lot of places and states including the east coast, north, south, and west. Once we were married, we continued on with our love of travel. Car trips, train rides, cruises (17 so far), airplanes to get us where we want to drop in, and off and on camping trips in my parents’ motorhome.

We had a three week cruise set for Ireland, Scotland, England, and Amsterdam but it got canceled when Covid shut the world down. We were antsy to get out and explore  and finally in September of 2020, while sitting at the table enjoying dinner, we said, “We should go buy a trailer so we can camp and still follow social distancing rules.” We went right out the next day and bought one. Plus, we needed a bigger truck to pull it so we got one of those, too. HA Living in the Mountain West gave us so many unique and different places to camp. September 2020 to January 2022, 16 months, we camped over 180 days!

Right away we knew this was a lifestyle that we wanted. We like having our “home” with us and taking it wherever we want to go. Finding new places to explore and learn is a passion for us. We researched extensively the “RV living” way.

We sold our house in less than a weekend – with 7 offers above asking price.  We were tired of snow and cold and wanted to be in warmer places. We had a home base built in Arizona but haven’t even lived there. HAHA Kevin calls that house our “Fancy Storage Unit”! 😃

March 2022, after full-time living in our 2020 25 ft Shadow Cruiser, we traded it in and bought a 2022 36 ft Alliance Avenue. This has an office space for Kevin to use for his remote work. It has everything I want in a house except for a tub! (I love bubble baths!) I even have a washer and dryer. I have enough room to do my quilting and Kevin does his leather craft.

February 9th was the 2nd anniversary of our traveling full-time. We have 0 (zero, none) regrets. We get to see friends and family that we hadn’t seen in years. We travel to their place, stay in our own “home”, and try not to wear them out. HAHA The people who have become friends and like family to us along the way are so very precious to us. History, landscapes, cultures, and more have come alive for us. We get to experience cities, small towns and out in the middle of nowhere. From tall and rugged mountains to swamps, prairies, oceans, and lake. Each place has a gem that makes it special and unique.

As I like to say, “See ya down the road!”

  1. I love the map! It reminded me of the one my Grandma had tacked to her living room wall with colored pins in it. All of your photographs are beautiful but I am really drawn to the tractor in the sunset! I also enjoyed learning how you got into the full-time travel life. I do love travel, but I love being “home in one place” that stays in that place. We still hope to someday do our road trip to the Canadian Rockies that got cancelled in 2020.

    1. The map is on our hallway and I like to look at it and see where we want to go next. 🙂
The tractor at sunset was in a field outside of Dodge City, Kansas. Thank you for your nice words. I hope you can get to the Canadian Rockies soon. I imagine they are majestic. 🌟

  2. Since I have just started to follow your blogs, I really enjoyed reading this to get to understand your RVing journey. We have a map on our wall too, but it’s the sticker kind that most people have on the outside. Love the pictures (especially the one of you two) and I’m looking forward to hearing about all your adventures to come!

    1. I am so happy to get to know you better, as well. Thank you! Speaking of maps, go back in our blog and read about us going to Washington state. You will learn ALL about “Kevin’s Rule”. It is too funny. LOL
