Fireworks 5 Nights, 5-6 Hours A Night = Amazing!!!

I sent out this text to a few people a few weeks ago:

Today marks 3 years since we have been full-time RVers traveling the country. In these 3 years we have stayed over night in 43 states. As we start year 4, we continue to love this lifestyle and are thankful for all we have seen, explored, and done. Continuing on. 😃

Over all our years, we have been to every state except North Dakota and Hawaii. 🤣

Travel Day: We went back to Lake Havasu, Arizona, for a GREAT event.

Western Winter Blast is the pyrotechnics display and trade show and has been held here in Lake Havasu for 37 years. Staying at the rodeo grounds you can stay here Monday-Monday. This is a very good way to learn more about it.

It is nice knowing how to get into SARA (Special Activities and Recreation Area) Park and the rodeo grounds, since we have been here twice before for other events. Just inside the gate was the check in. Kevin got out and went to the table. They gave us a good size packet with all the info we needed. I like the details. Followed the guy on the ATV to our site; we have a good angle, 2nd from the end, to see the fireworks. Kevin actually pulled into our spot backwards from everyone else so that the big windows in the back is facing the fireworks. Since no hook ups, it doesn’t matter. We sat outside and read our books. (We do this a lot!) The moon was brilliant and full and we commented on how the sky is so much more clear and brilliant in this southwestern desert area. Love it!

As we were sitting at the table playing a game, I felt and he heard/felt a large boom. I thought a generator exploded! It was still light out but we looked out the back windows and saw it was a firework. They would launch so often but it was light enough we couldn’t see the colors. Soon it was darker and we could see clearly. The fireworks were fantastic! We are so close; they set them off in three different places around SARA Park. The new one we saw was an upside down heart – wonder if it was the wrong way! HAHA The next night the heart was almost right side up and the night after that, it was perfectly placed.

A friend of mine came from the Salt Lake City area to spend the weekend with us. It was so great to see her. She and I communicate through American Sign Language (ASL) and I am so glad she does a good job with it. When people ask me how I speak so clearly, well, she is the one who is on top of my pronouncing since I became 100% deaf a few years ago. Helps that she is a speech and language pathologist! 🙂

Let me tell you about Winter Blast Fireworks. It is a trade show for the big makers and buyers. The fireworks would start blasting off slowly around 4:30ish and then ramp up as it was getting darker outside and go until 10:00 p.m. Not one night, no, Wednesday through Sunday! Can you even imagine seeing that many fireworks? On Friday night and Saturday night they have a special display/program for the public. People came from all around and parked around in the park grounds and are the open area. It was like no other firework show. And it lasted hours. We dry camped at the rodeo grounds at SARA Park which gave us an incredible view from our RV and/or sitting outside in camp chairs.

One night they even had drones as part of the firework show and the theme for it was Back To The Future. Amazing to see the scene where they harnessed the lightning from the clocktower to make the jump into the future. Just excellent!

Yes, we have already bought our camping spot for next year. 🙂

  1. “HOWE” is what we named our Alliance Avenue 36-ft 5th wheel. See: Home On WhEels and we pronounce it Howie. We live and travel in it full-time around the country.

    1. You are right, getting better and better. And that was part of the fun being there because they show off new things! A real “blast “! 😉

  2. We just celebrated 5 years of being ” nomads”. Congratulations to you! You’ve covered more states in your RVing journey in less time, I think. I love the fireworks and I think it would be fun! They look really different.
