This week we were at Winter Blast to see the firework shows right from our campground in Lake Havasu, AZ. A few minutes before I woke up we received a great email – we got into Alliance Rally! Wahoo. Alliance is the brand that made our 5th wheel. We went to their national rally last year and had a blast. Learned stuff and met a lot of nice people. To get in, it is a lottery. This year we didn’t make the first or second cut. But we made the third. I immediately got up and finished the registration, meaning, they wanted money. HA My friend and I texted and are so excited we get to see each other again later this year.
The rodeo grounds here don’t have hook ups. Our new batteries are holding pretty well but got down to 51% in the evening (after 30+ hours) so Kevin started the generator. It seems that Starlink (footnote 1) takes a lot of battery juice. Plus he discovered our solar panel isn’t working. Most everyone here runs their generators to charge up their batteries. Then Kevin went next door (next site over) and hung out with the neighbors and had a great time. I was so glad he went. They sat around the fire. I read inside and play Qwirkle one game with my friend online.
That evening Kevin was a sleep and I got out of bed to get some lip moisturizer. As I opened the bathroom cabinet door, his big block of vitamins fell out, hit the counter, and then the floor. Poor guy – he thought I fell. What a terrible way to wake up. I quickly hollered everything was fine and the medicine fell. It took him some time for his heart to stop racing.
For an afternoon break, we went to Bashas Grocery Store. Such a fine store. We didn’t really need anything except Diet Coke for Kevin. We did buy something that we never have from a grocery store before – sushi made there. Took it home (footnote 2) and ate it and it was outstanding! I also got a head of cauliflower because I want to try ricing it.
Later we sat outside and watched more people and RVs arrive. Very much towards dark, the neighbors were ready for us and we had pudgy pies over the campfire. The first one one of the guys made for me, well, when he took it and was checking doneness, the bread and cheese plopped right out and into the fire. That was funny. The next one was good. 🙂 It was hard to communicate being so dark since I am deaf so later I went inside HOWE (footnote 3). I was glad Kevin stayed out and visited more. It was fun to see the fireworks – normal city fireworks across the country are big and last about 20 minutes. Tonight, it was those big shows and went on for hours. So fun!!!
“Ditto” Kevin said. Why? As I was reading my travel journal from last year to Kevin, it is about the same as we experienced today. Ditto is right! LOL
I tried something new in the kitchen. I am wanting to eat more Asian food. We like it a lot but I have found I don’t make it often. The other day I spent some time looking up how to make riced cauliflower. I found great instructions from The Pioneer Woman. Today I tried it. It was so easy because I have my Ninja Food Processor! It chunked the cauliflower down to looking like rice. Then you cook it on the stove, just watching it ever so often. And it was yummy! I added a lot of veggies, turkey, and yum yum sauce. We ate our bowls outside. We liked it very much so now I am going to add more Asian food to my menu. The fireworks blasting off were incredible to watch. Even though this isn’t the big shows of Friday and Saturday, it was almost constant for 4 hours and big as any grand finale at a fireworks celebration across the country.

On Friday we got out the Blackstone and Kevin cooked Philly cheesesteaks. Delicious! I made cheesy potatoes inside. Yummy dinner. The fireworks display for the public was excellent! There were more colors in the fireworks this year. The drones had a flag and then a few things for 250 birthday of USA.

Saturday: We thought about going and doing something but the day just felt like “stay home relax and read” kind of day. Perfect. Kevin heated the Philly cheesesteak filling, the cheesy potatoes and added eggs on the Blackstone. Made excellent breakfast/lunch burritos. We stopped at the check in area at this campground (rodeo grounds) because we had some questions. Kevin asked them if we could leave Monday after work but was told everyone has to be gone by Monday at noon because they have another group coming in. Makes sense. We had planned to leave here Sunday anyway but was curious at options. How many RV sites here? 420! It was sold out but 33 didn’t come; that is normal to have about 10% not show up. Kevin asked if we could pay for our spot again but maybe not show up since you do it a year ahead. They said that was just fine; a good way to keep our site. Our site is even better than the one we were given last year. Yay! The fireworks show was great, except for a very long 15 minutes pause…and no drones. Did the drone show fail or did they have it at all? We don’t know. Still fun to watch.
Sunday we took our time waking up. 🙂 Slowly got packed up. We see a lot of people have already left the rodeo grounds. A few stay for the fireworks today and this evening. We headed north.
*The blog posts are taken from my daily travel journal. Would you believe – it takes me a 1/2 day every week to whittle down a week’s worth of journal so it won’t be too long for the post each week. HAHA Thank you for reading!
- Starlink is satellite internet. It works even when you are out of cell coverage area. You can make phone call through it, too. The company named the user terminal “Dishy McFlatface” and every calls it “Dishy” for short. 🙂
- “Home” is where we park it. Home is our 2022 Alliance Avenue, 36 ft, 5th wheel.
- “HOWE” is what we named our Alliance Avenue 36-ft 5th wheel. See: Home On WhEels and we pronounce it Howie. We live and travel in it full-time around the country.
This sounds like a great event at Lake Havasu, Charla. So, I take it you return there every winter?

This was our second year to attend. And yes, we have already paid for our same spot for next year. It really is a wonderful experience. 😃
