Food, Silver Dollar City, & Family, Missouri

We spent some time one evening fulfilling photo requests for Find A Grave (footnote 1) at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, a National Cemetery, in Springfield, Missouri. On the way up there we saw a sign for Lambert’s Cafe, “Home of the Throwed Rolls.” All the times Kevin has been down here in the Ozarks and visiting Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri, he never stopped here. I was here with people years ago.  It is such a fun place to eat! I had chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy on top. Side of baked beans and coleslaw. He had Southern something which is ham and beans. Then, would you believe? The waiters walk around and you can have all you want of fried okra, fried potatoes, black eye peas, macaroni and tomatoes, and something else. They keep walking around and giving more. And then, what they are famous for are the huge soft rolls. A waiter walks around, plucks one out of the cooking muffin tin and throws the rolls to people all around the restaurant. Kevin asked the server if he played baseball and the guy said no. HAHAHA As we checked out I was so surprised that the total bill was only $38.00. More food than you can imagine and such a cheap price. Wow. Kevin Rated: Come Here Every Time We Come To Silver Dollar City. I agree with that rating!

Kevin said he had a surprise for me. I was so excited. He got done with work at 3:30 p.m. this day. I asked him if I needed to dress up and he said yes, and the laughed, and said no. We drove over the river and he pulled in to a place I thought I would never be at! Where was this place? Dice and Dine in Branson, Missouri. This place has over 1300 games and a snack bar. No kidding, I couldn’t believe it. That is the truest of love because Kevin doesn’t “love” games! What a gift.

There is a $5.00 per person cover charge and then you can play all you want. The place is an old gas station. Shelves and shelves of games with colored stickers marking if, for example, 2 people, or easy, or hard, etc. The tables are really nice and covered with a mesh with the logo. Pencils and paper at each table. We started with Blokus. Kevin is very good at this game; me, not so much. But a blast. Then Boggle. We ordered dinner of panini sandwiches, which were very tasty. Next was Rummikub. Time for snacks: he got Popcorn Salad! HA There were three options and he got the one with M&Ms, and cinnamon toast crunch. I got a mix of peanut butter M&Ms and skittles. Our last game was Skipbo. Kevin enjoyed it so much he said we should buy the game! Wahoo. We were there until 8:30 p.m. What a sweet honey I have. And he had fun, too.

Cold! We went to Silver Dollar City on this last Saturday we are there for our 5th time these two weeks here. At 9:45 a.m. the temp was 49° but the feels like was 36°. The highest temp today was 59° with feels like 49°. We were so glad the 4 times we came last week were warm, even the day it rained. So, we were bundled up with jackets and I even had my ear cover on. It was cloudy & windy all day but no rain. The place got crowded quickly, more so than last week! We went to Sullivan’s Mill. Kevin and I both remember them baking bread here years ago and oh, the smells were heavenly. They don’t do that now; they are baked at another place here at the park. They sell cinnamon rolls and such and have a cute kitchen store. They do still grind corn here. The man showing us worked there 35 years. He used to serve up the cinnamon rolls and he would add more glaze. But the managers would come over and tell him to stop putting on so much. He complied…until they left and then he would add more glaze. HA He said they used to grind the flour here but it made such a mess and people have allergies so now just the corn.

We went to center stage for the flag ceremony. Kevin and I signed in American Sign Language the pledge and the anthem. Soon a lady came over and signed to me. She was an ASL interpreter and loves it. They are from St Louis and come here often. She said the church music lady likes to see her signing the hymns. We had a great visit. They went off somewhere else but Kevin and I went to the church for hymn sing along. The piano lady told the people my story about being a piano player and then going deaf. She encouraged me, strongly, to get up front and sign Victory in Jesus as everyone sang. That was fun. We think in our 5 days here this time Kevin did every ride, we saw every show, saw the demonstrations, and did all the shopping we wanted, and then some. A wonderful place.

Travel Day: to Finger Lakes State Park, Columbia, Missouri. From the brochures Kevin got from the check in I read there isn’t walking trails here. It is an old strip mine. When the company was done they reseeded but couldn’t do much with some of the dirt paths. So, this place made it into a Open Road Vehicles park. So lots of dirt trails for motorcycles, dirt bikes, UTVs. You can take a kayak on a water trail on the lake. What a neat way to repurpose the damaged land! We stopped near the dump station to fill our tank with fresh water and then went to our campsite. After we got set up, Kevin’s brother and his wife came over for a visit.

I read the book “The Gales of November” by John U. Bacon. Fantastic book about the Edmund Fitzgerald that sank on the Great Lakes in 1975. It felt so real because most of the places we have been there! Even tiny town of Iron River we camped there for a week. Excellent!

A Soldier Lost Leaves A Hole, Capitol, Jefferson City, MO 04/26

The drive to Jefferson City with Kevin’s brother and wife was nice. The Lewis & Clark Monument is right next to the state capitol building. We also saw a very nice area honoring veterans and Gold Families. For dinner someone picked Cinco de Mayo which was just a few blocks away. Delicious! Rated: Every Time We Come Here To Walk Around The Entire Capitol Building And See Lewis & Clark Monument! 😉

We had a great week with Kevin’s brother and wife. We got together with them every day this week. They are so kind, with big hearts, and lots of fun. Food, games, visiting were a blast!

Kevin “showing” Lewis & Clark, York, Druillard, & Seaman where the Missouri River is. HAHA This is in Jefferson City, Missouri.

*The blog posts are taken from my daily travel journal. Would you believe – it takes me a 1/2 day every week to whittle down a week’s worth of journal so it won’t be too long for the post each week. HAHA Thank you for reading!
