Friends, Ocean, Kites & Food @ Lincoln City (OR)

Travel Day from Buxton, Oregon, to around Lincoln City, Oregon. We are staying the week at our friend’s house. The roads around her house are narrow but we made it just fine. Stopped in the road in front of her property and had a look. She met us out there and we made a plan to get HOWE (footnote 1) backed up into her driveway. She later said she didn’t realize how big HOWE is and was shocked when I told her our A/C units on top make it as tall as a semi trailer. Her gate in narrow but Kevin was able to back right in from the angle of the road. I was watching and hollered stop, come look. She has a power line that is lower than HOWE. So we moved HOWE over a little. It barely fits but we made it. Kevin’s office view (out the back of our 5th wheel) is stunning – gorgeous plants, trees, gardens, knickknacks, and her blue roof white cottage. We had a lovely afternoon and evening with her.

When our friend came home from work today she thought it was so fun to come home to Kevin and me standing at her open gate and welcoming her home. 😃Then Kevin grabbed the game Skip-bo and we had a fun round. We laugh at how my home (footnote 2) is at her home and oh, what a commute she has after leaving here. All the way down her driveway. LOL

Today our friend and I left for errands. One place we stopped was at Connie Hansen Garden. We were there back in 2023. First we walked around the trees and plants. Very few had blossoms out this time of year. As we went to the front door of the tiny house/gift shop, I saw a sign that said they were closed due to water damage. We looked in the window and it looks like the whole place has been gutted. That is sad. She took me to the local library. The building is 4 stories above a parking lot. Not a lot of space around so that was smart. We went to the top floor for view and the welcome center. It was good and she learned a lot. Got a lot of brochures for her visitors. And, we learned the Kite Festival is this Friday and Saturday. Wahoo! The library has a good amount of books and a huge quiet room. As we were pulling up to friend’s property, I texted Kevin, “I am home” and he texted, “Nope, I am home. You aren’t here. 🤪” I thought that was so funny.

The other day I offered to treat our friend to a pedicure with me. I didn’t know until we got there that this is her first ever pedicure! She was immediately hooked. The place was great and clean. We got the full treatment of sugar scrub, hot stones, paraffin wax, massage, and polish.

Dinner that night was at the south end of Lincoln City to Mo’s Seafood & Chowder. Let me tell you, every time we have visited around this area, we have always gone to Mo’s…several times…in several cities. HAHA This is right along the river and bay. The views out the window were neat. Kevin had salad with piles of shrimp and I had bread bowl clam chowder. Very yummy. We walked along the wooden pier and took some pictures.

We went to the annual Kite Festival here in Lincoln City. There were a lot less kites this year, we were told, because it is held at a different place. Where it is usually held is at the beach where the new visitor center is being built. We were on a bluff way above the beach so it was fun to look straight out and above and see some kites. Several were 30 ft long and as long as a school bus, the announcer said. Wow. There was a very large area roped off and 3-6 people would fly kites together. It was all synced.

We met new friends this week and enjoyed time together. Food, games, and visiting are just the best with people we love to be with. A very great week.

*The blog posts are taken from my daily travel journal. Would you believe – it takes me a 1/2 day every week to whittle down a week’s worth of journal so it won’t be too long for the post each week. HAHA Thank you for reading!

  1. “HOWE” is what we named our Alliance Avenue 36-ft 5th wheel. See: Home On WhEels and we pronounce it Howie. We live and travel in it full-time around the country. HOWE has stayed at least one night in all 48 continuous U.S. states.
  1. “Home” is where we park it. Home is our 2022 Alliance Avenue, 36 ft, 5th wheel.
