A Quick Overnight In Arkansas & Camping With Friends In Texas

Travel Day: We got up at 6:00 a.m. and headed out from Seven Points Campground, Hermitage, TN, as soon as we were ready. We knew there was construction on West I-40 around Nashville downtown. Every time we went that way, the traffic would be stopped, no matter what time. Even early on Saturday morning and the traffic was stopped. The longest sitting-stopped-on-the-road we think the entire time we have been full-time traveling. It took over an hour but we didn’t stress or anything. We figured we would be in slow traffic through there. 

The leaves have really changed colors (this is end of October) just the past day or so and along Jackson, TN, they were very pretty. Little rolling hills but not as often. As we crossed over the Mississippi River, Memphis, we both let out squeals that we were no longer east of the Mississippi River! HAHA On the west side of the river, it looked like the land is river bottoms. Landscape was pretty flat from here.

Downtown Riverside RV Park, North Little Rock, AR 10/24

We got to North Little Rock, Arkansas, around 2:00 p.m. I read in the paper they handed us that this is a city owned RV park. Good use of land, we thought, because easy to evacuate if the Arkansas River floods. There is construction right near here on I-30 and the emails we got from the campground gave great directions. It was cute; it said to take I-40 to I-30 and then an exit. Then it says, “Turn off GPS.” They wrote that GPS takes you a long way around and they listed easy directions around the construction. Interestingly, Apple Maps took us the way they suggested. The area is pretty run down and we see lots of homeless people. The campground has a fence and gate with security. Yesterday I had made pasta salad for dinner tonight, knowing we wouldn’t want to unhook, and I also made pumpkin cookies for dessert. I started doing laundry as soon as we were set up because we didn’t have sewer hook ups at the last place and we won’t the next few places. We were right along Arkansas River and the walking bridge from our side to the Clinton Presidential Library and Museum is all lite up. Right as we pulled up, it started raining, hard. And right when we were set up, it stopped. HA We enjoyed walking around the campground and seeing the river. Saw one tug boat pushing a barge.

Travel Day: Another good night sleep and we pulled out at 6:50 a.m. The people next to us had pulled out about 1/2 hour before us and several others were pulling out, too. It was barely light outside. We headed to Thousand Trails Lake Tawakoni, Point, TX. This place wasn’t on our plans but when our online church friends discovered four families would be in the area we decided to camp together here.

Dry Weeds Along The Highway, Prescott, TX 10/24

Let me back up, the roads just before Texas and the whole drive in Texas – the roads are horrible! Some points I couldn’t even read my book on my iPad because it was so bouncy. Grrr! We were sure something would be broken in our 5th wheel (but thankfully nothing was). The land was flat and wide open where the trees, much shorter trees here, have been removed for farms, houses, businesses, etc. We like the wider open feeling. At Prescott, along the border, the grass along the side of the road is very dry, tall, but dry.

Lake Tawakoni Campground, Point, TX 10/24

We really enjoyed camping with our friends. We ended up being pretty close to each other, with two side by side. We all took turns cooking for the group. We had lots of fun, food, and fellowship. HAHA Can’t wait to see them again, down the road.
